Henry stars in The Grange, a television drama beloved by mothers and wives, and whose fans speak about the characters as though they were living people, yet Henry dreams of escaping the small screen for better things. Whether he's holed up in his apartment eating monkish meals of rice and steamed vegetables or snorting cocaine at desert parters in Doha, Henry's awareness of his own image, of his place in the world, is acute and constant: he wants to be taken more seriously. Now an audition for a movie directed by a highly respected Spanish auteur holds the promise of a way forward. Henry feels he is on the brink of achieving intellectual credibility and some real celebrity at last. But Henry has also, unwittingly, become an important part of the life of the recently divorced Kristin. Alone in her empty Philadelphia home, she finds herself likewise on the brink--but not of stardom. Kristin is becoming obsessed with this handsome English actor and is convinced they are destined to be together. She resolves to fly to London and bring their relationship to fruition. There, the catastrophe of their coming together will blur the lines between stalker and prey, between victim and monster.
