Wallis in Love

the Untold Life of the Duchess of Windsor, the Woman Who Changed the Monarchy
Mar 21, 2018vickmeister rated this title 5 out of 5 stars
An engrossing look at the notorious woman who inspired a king to abandon his kingdom, and changed the course of history forever. Morton delves deep into the early life of Wallis Simpson, exploring the deprivations that colored her youth and childhood, and how they seemed to have created a shallow, acquisitive social climber whose only thought was for benefiting herself regardless of how it may impact others. The book also gives insight into her complex relationships with the men whom she knew before she became the obsessive focus of Edward, the Prince of Wales, and how those relationships continued to hold impact even after he had abdicated the throne for her. Morton also provides sources that help to dispel many of the myths that surround Mrs. Simpson to the current day, and illustrates how this storied romance-of-the-century was at best a shallow sham, with the former king bullied and eventually emotionally abandoned by this infamous woman who wanted to be queen, and ended up an outcast.
