I liked Iron Lake enough that I sampled this second book in the series. For almost 200 pages, I thought I'd found a good series, enjoyed Kreuger's writing style, his well-drawn, believable main characters, and the book's pace and suspense. Then, increasingly, I felt that Kreuger couldn't decide where his plot was going. He drifted, tried one ending or villain after another. He tried to keep my interest with inserts of trite soap opera, hints that sadistic violence could be expected. I wanted to like this series, so persisted another 100 pages. Then dumped it.
