Nope. This one didn't do it for me. I'm beginning to realize that as I've read more books and seen different writing styles, and as my own writing style and reading tastes have developed and changed, I'm finding Dickerson's books more and more (and more) lacking in...well, everything. The plot dragged, especially in the beginning, and didn't really pick up speed till midway through the book. Some of the characters were completely pointless and nothing but ends to a means. Rapunzel and Gerek's romance, though a little more realistic and slower-paced than Dickerson's other romances, was still cliche and had me rolling my eyes. As usual, Dickerson does not use her writing style to SHOW, instead telling a lot of things through her writing about what the characters are feeling/thinking. The dialogue has gotten better, but Dickerson seems to cram mini-sermons into these exchanges between characters, with little regard to subtlety or good timing. It comes off as forced and preachy, even though the lessons are good and wholesome. As for pros, there aren't many, but I can say that Dickerson still tries to keep her romances clean and respectful, and I do appreciate that. Any romantic moments generally come off as sweet not sensuous, and as always, Dickerson's male lead shows great respect and chivalry toward his woman (and all women, for that matter) and her reputation. However, content aside, the book didn't impress me. Sure, I will admit I was drawn into the story a little past halfway, but the ending left a too-sweet, overly clean taste in my mouth. Cliche and disappointing. Not a good mix.
