Summary

In this third book about a beloved teacher (following Because of Mr. Terupt [Random House, 2010] and Mr.Terupt Falls Again [Random House, 2012/VOYA December 2012]), Terupt's faithful "gang" of students from sixth grade faces the challenges of junior high. In separate, short chapters, Peter, Jeffrey, Jessica, Alexia, Danielle, Anna, and Luke tell how their friendships are tested in seventh grade when things go wrong at a campaign party for Alexia and Luke, who both decide to run for president of the student government. It takes a school budget crisis to bring the friends together in an all-out campaign to save Mr. Terupt's job The individual personalities and abilities of Buyea's characters emerge through their narratives as they tell about their interests and feelings, including moves from friendships to budding romantic relationships. Danielle's narrative includes a scientific explanation of diabetes type one and her courageous attitude in learning how to manage her health. This is an engaging read with broad appeal.
