The first third of the book is not necessarily terrible. But once we get to Berlin, we're treated to a sizable cast of nothings: no personalities shine, and indeed characters are pretty swappable, with no real defining characteristics and no sense of life beyond the pages of the book. It's swamped with a lot of cliche. The plot twists can be seen from several miles away if you're paying even a modicum of attention, which is dreary. For being what should be fun thriller mystery, it just falls so flat and boring, and it isn't any fun trying to figure out who Velvet is because all the characters are so interchangeable.
