In Glass sword Mare has escaped from the Bowl of Bones and has discovered her brother Shade is alive and has abilities like her. But now she is with the scarlet guard, a group of reds fighting to be equal to the silvers who reign over them. Mare begins to trust the scarlet guard but they are not as they seem to be. They hold Information from her, forcing her to look deeper. They have connections to other nations and are much larger and more organized than she realized. They betray her and Cal, trapping them in a cage of silent stone, meant to take away their abilities. But Farley helps them escape and they begin to search for others like Mare, new bloods with red blood and silver abilities. Except they are stronger than silvers and much harder to find. Throughout her journey she is hunted by her old betrothed Maven, who searches for her and tries to beat her to the new bloods who he will stop at nothing to destroy. She can fight against him but he brands her with an M and promises to find her. She takes up a home in the Notch where she helps newbloods with their abilities. They also meet Jon who can see into the future and tells her that where she will find what she is looking for. She finds Cameron who becomes very useful and can help the scarlet guard progress and defeat the silvers. Overall I would give this book a 5/5 and would really recommend it. @skybooks of the Hamilton Public Library Teen Review Board The Glass Sword is the sequel to the amazing book, Red Queen. This book was not a let down from the previous book, it had drama, action, tension, and love. There are many twists and turns in this book. This book is a rollercoaster that the readers will never want to get off. This book focuses mainly on the Scarlet Guard. The novel is written very well, there is so much detail that the readers will feel as if they are Mare Barrow (main character). The readers will not want to put the book down. The readers will be able to relate the characters and will be able to feel all the emotions of the character. 4.5/5 stars @Gray19 of the Hamilton Public Library Teen Review Board Glass Sword is the second book of the Red Queen series. The series is about a girl named Mare Barrow. Her world is torn between red and silver bloods. The silver blooded are noble and have immense power at their fingertips. The red-blooded are poor with no abilities at all. But Mare, a red, finds out that she has powers like the silvers and the novel revolves around her story. The second book is just as good as the first and I enjoyed it very much. The characters develop even more and we get to meet some new characters as well. The Author, Victoria Aveyard, has explained both the setting and characters with elaborate descriptions which adds a lot more interest to the book. I totally recommend this book to teenagers aged 13-18. I give this book a 4.5 out of 5 stars. - @terrificbooklover of the Teen Review Board of the Hamilton Public Library To be very honest, I gave this book an average rating of 4, because I wanted to balance out how much I disliked the protagonist and how much I adored the actual book. I felt that Mare's personality had a dramatic shift, and she wasn't the interestingly complicated person I read about in Red Queen. However, the exciting plot did a good job covering up Mare's stumbling fluctuations, and I could never guess what would happen next. Cal didn't have any more of that appeal anymore, as the crown prince, and Maven was still a major disappointment. However, this book is leaving me very impatient for the next one! 4/5 stars - @Siri of the Teen Review Board of the Hamilton Public Library
