I read this for a book club, and it definitely got my group talking! The jacket summary doesn't give any insight into how dark the book gets, so readers beware. This isn't a light read. That being said, I feel it's an interesting take on the damaging effects of childhood trauma. In fact, it's impressive that the main character is outwardly functional at all. Perhaps it's the intensity with which she pursues her goal of "the perfect life" that has held her together for so long. TifAni isn't someone I liked at the beginning, but I don't think we're supposed to. She's not a heroine. She's a flawed human just like any of us. This book was difficult to start, but by the end I was up until 2 A.M. on a work night because I *had* to know what happened next.
