Although I liked Merry (from the Grace/Colt book), I don't think I had a huge impression of her and, I have to admit, I wasn't overly interested in reading her story. That lasted all of two seconds. I picked this book up and didn't put it down until I finished it (at, oh, 3 in the morning; sigh). I'm not a huge fan of exclamation points in dialogue, but Victoria Dahl's use of them in this situation was PERFECT. I found Merry's awkwardness overwhelmingly endearing and Shane's somewhat dazed reaction to her equally -- maybe even more -- so. This book was heading towards a perfect 5 for me up until the very ending. The conflict was, though, expected, expertly handled -- Shane did *exactly* what I'd hoped he would do. But I felt like the resolution after that was a bit rushed; I felt like with just one or two more chapters, it would have been perfect. Still, I've just requested #3 in the series, and if it lives up to #s 1 and 2, this one will be a keeper for me.
