Patriots

a Novel of Survival in the Coming Collapse

Very disappointing. I was surprised at how amateurish Patriots is in comparison to Rawles' great manual, How to Survive the End of the World as We Know It: Tactics, Techniques, and Technologies for Uncertain Times. Rawles is a talented manual writer but has no aptitude for fiction. There is no character development or suspense. He goes off on bizarre jags for many pages about how drivers' licenses are illegal. Fiendish stereotypes abound, e.g., the heroes mow down two Communist cannibals, Untouchables style, when they find children's limbs in the perps' bundle buggy food cache. Most of the tremendously boring descriptive passages involve weapons and plumbing. Unless you find egregiously BAD writing uproariously funny, give this stinker a miss.
