Clare’s mother has died and her father, a doctor, has taken Clare to Malawi for nine weeks while he runs a clinic there and she will attend the native school in eighth grade. Clare is furious that she is forced to leave her friends and the lifestyle she is used to. Life in Malawi is very different and until she meets Memory, who is to be her schoolmate, she is miserable. However, as she becomes more used to the country and culture and makes more friends she learns that although they live differently people share the same feelings and emotions. This is a wonderful story of relationships. Reviewed by BPL volunteer EE.
