One of the two major prehistoric movies from the early 80s. The other, "Clan of the Cave Bear," cast Darryl Hannah as its very blonde protagonist. "Quest for Fire" is maybe a little more legit, with an invented language (there is dialogue, btw) by author Anthony Burgess ("A Clockwork Orange"). Everett McGill, who would later be on "Twin Peaks," Ron Perlman, whose simian looks are perfect for the role, and Rae Dawn Chong are the leads. It can be a little hard to take seriously at times, but the make-up is realistic and the settings are gorgeous (it was filmed in Kenya, Scotland, and Canada). Also, if you're look for hot caveperson on caveperson action, this is your movie. The woolly mammoths are a bit disappointing though. Oh, and Orson Welles (see KEVIN DOWD'S comment) is not in this. Directed by Jean-Jacques Annaud, who also did "In the Name of the Rose" and "Seven Years in Tibet."
