With the help of some old and new friends, Percy Jackson is set on a journey he would never have thought possible. The Greek Olympian Gods are in the midst of an unsolved feud and it's only up to Percy and his friends to save Olympus. This first of five books is a marvelous debut of the series Percy Jackson and The Olympians that includes a fun twist on Greek Mythology. It is packed with action, adventure and fantasy all around. Percy Jackson, whom is the main character and narrator, is comical and witty which makes a captivating read. Readers will experience what it is like to be in the shoes of a demigod (half-human, half-god). You have to take a peek at The Lightning Thief because Rick Riordan's writing is so humorous and will definitely make your day. Plus, there's an added bonus that you might learn a few things here and there about Greek Mythology. The Lightning Thief is a fantastic read and you won't get enough of it. Absolutely recommend reading the rest of the series of Percy Jackson and The Olympians. Rate: 4/5 stars. - @ReadingIceCream of the Teen Review Board of the Hamilton Public Library The book ”Percy Jackson and the Olympians” is a marvelous beginning to a wonderful attracting series known as ”Percy Jackson”. Just like any other book written by Rick Riordan, ”Percy Jackson and the Olympians” is a well-written novel with exceptional detail. This novel will expand your imagination with every little word making you reconsider the boundaries between fantasy and reality. This book really expresses the emotion of suspense, shock and sadness so well that it seems real. The book has an outstanding plot with Percy finding out that he is a half-blood and his journey with his half-blood friends to find Zeus’s lightning bolt. I personally believe that this novel is enjoyable for all ages as it is easily understandable and very interesting to read. This book is also very enjoyable for people who are simply not interested in reading. Once you have started reading Percy Jackson and the Olympians you cannot stop until you have finished reading the whole book. It Reading “Percy Jackson and the Olympians” seems as if you are watching a movie in your mind, instead, of holding a book. - @Chichiro of the Teen Review Board of the Hamilton Public Library Rick Riordan's 'The Lightning Thief' introduced us to the Percy Jackson series. From the beginning, it was a slow book to start off, with very little action and a lot of confusion. I often found myself having to go back and reread parts of the story just to completely understand but that didn't last long. As the book picked up and began to reach its climax, I believe Riordan shocked not just me, but others when it was revealed who the true villain was. He had me hooked after just a few chapters, especially after the chapter with Sally and the Minotaur, I just had to read what happened with that plot. The book kept me on my toes, especially towards the end when we had no idea what Zeus was going to do, as Percy fought off the true villain just a world away. Overall, I think the book was a fantastic read, and I would definitely recommend it to anyone who was looking for a good fantasy book and series to start with! I'd give it a 4.5/5 rating. - @NemoReads of the Teen Review Board at the Hamilton Public Library
