Joseph Cotten plays a great villain and Better Davis this time- on this rare occasion- plays the victim - not a victimizer... the films original plan was a reunion of Joan Crawford to play Davis part .... and for Davis to play the greedy relative who only wants her money and plots to kill with Cotten to gain her money. Well done- slightly campy- but a good depiction of greed and deception. Bette Davis is always worth watching.. a slight nostalgia for the old south is conveyed and the impending change of the modern world enroaching on the estate is an interesting sub plot.
