The Murder on the Links is a fun read and not to be overlooked when reading the Poirot series. It has an interesting cast of characters and I was rather invested in them which is sometimes difficult with a larger group such as this. One detractor was due to the setting being in france and having a belgian main character there is a healthy amount of french culture and language in it. Having been written during the interwar period (the 1920s/1930s) it is unsurprising that perhaps Christie would expect her readers to know a smidgen of french. For the modern reader however it can be frustrating to feel like you constantly need to use google translate. Culture and language aside it is well written with many entertaining and surprising twists to the novel. I recommend setting aside time to read it either in one go or in large parts because it was very irritating to be thrown out the world Christie was crafting and trying to get sucked back in several times. A good read for a night in.
