Almost all of us live in boxes, boxes of minds trapped much alike. When Dr. Berne lectured at UCMC, he used extremely colloquial language to introduce this conundrum, referring to thinking 'Martian,' and the like. He got thunderous applause, but not many of those physicians were able to think outside of the cultural boxes they were trapped within. Very soon after, Dr. Berne ( a lifetime tobacco user) passed away in that same hospital complex, due to a heart condition. He has been sorely missed. He carried a flaming torch of liberating wisdom. I think some of us need to pick that torch up, and carry on with his project. There are worse places to start, than with this basic book, which can serve as an introduction. Buddha's message was to 'AWAKE.' Berne's message is the same. He was against scripts being lived out unconsciously, either through being dominated by personalities, or ideologies, or by having been perverted so that the mental control has been twisted. His point, as was the Buddha's, is there is a way out, even if we are in the last portion of our life cycle. Certainly, we need not pass these neurotic or psychotic or sociopathic unconscious trailways, on, to our own relatives. And Krishna said there is always a judgment by the universe in such cases, so if you try to compensate by displacing past unhappy outcomes, by doing unto others of the present day, 'whatever you do is going to come right back on you.'
