Birmingham, Alabama, has lost all power. Its streets are jammed with cars that won't start, its airport engulfed in flames from burning planes. All communications—cell phones, computers, even radios—are silent. Every home and business is dark. Is it a natural disaster, a terrorist attack, or something far worse? In the face of a crisis that sweeps an entire high-tech planet back to a time before electricity, the Branning family faces a choice. Will they hoard their possessions in order to survive—or trust God to provide as they share their resources with those around them? Yesterday's world is gone. Family and community are all that remain. And the outage is revealing the worst in some. Desperation can be dangerous when a killer lives among them.

Great book in that's easy to read and the characters were easy to follow. I was a little leery to read it when I found out this was a Christian novel (thats just not my cup of tea) but found that it wasn't to heavy on the topic. I sympathized with the family when they struggled because my family would be in the same boat as them. I'm really glad this is a series so I can see what else comes thus familys way during this disaster.

This is a great first book to this series-it really makes you think "what would I do" in this situation!! I really liked the fact how she worked in relying on God, who gives you what you need at the time...

Story of a family struggling to survive from a natural disaster. I enjoyed this book enough to read it again.

I read this book just prior to and during hurricane Irene. It made me think about how ill prepared I was for disaster and I immediately ran out and purchased bottled water. LOL.

Seriously, as Christian fiction, it did little for me and I was unmoved. I found the book to be lacking in any true and lasting Christian message. It didn't help that most of the main characters were totally unlikeable, particularly the daughter.

I read the book as part of my Christian fiction book club. While several of the members expresses positive opinions regarding the offering, I was left cold.

Would not recommend.
