This is a 1956 American anti-war drama directed by Robert Aldrich.
Set in the latter stages of World War II, the film focuses on a front line combat unit led by a cowardly captain as well as a tougher subordinate and an executive officer who both threaten to do away with the captain.
The story is a cynical and grim account of war in the sense that not every gun is pointed at the enemy.

Blistering! Palance, never one to underplay a roll (that face alone would peel the paint off a wall) goes absolutely nuts when politics in his National Guard unit destroys his squad. This is cynicism as Art, before Aldrich goes Commercially cynical in The Dirty Dozen. You wont sleep after this one.
