Science fiction drama about a five-mile-wide meteor on a collision course with Earth. A scientist is summoned to Washington by NASA and is informed that a huge meteor will smash into earth in six days. There is one slim chance to divert disaster, but it means cooperation between the U.S. and the Soviet Union, and neither side trusts the other.

Man, biffblack (see below) really hates this movie. You'd think it killed his dog and violated his sister. It's personal, almost Trumpian, for him (her? they?). This is maybe the least remembered/loved of 70s disaster movies, which included the "Airport" series, "The Towering Inferno," "Earthquake," and "The Poseidon Adventure." I mean, you know what you're getting with these movies. Lots of stars picking up easy paychecks, lots of cheesy fx, nature (or planes) run wild. In this case a meteor (hence the clever title) is hurtling to earth and the Soviets and Americans have to team up to stop it. The overqualified cast makes it almost fun: Sean Connery, Natalie Wood, Henry Fonda (as the president), Brian Keith, Karl Malden. 20 years later, there'd be a new wave of disaster movies and "Armageddon" and "Deep Impact" would revive the asteroid/meteor coming to destroy us plot.

"Total Copies: 9 Available: 2 On Hold: 0"

On hold ZERO sez it all, suckahzz!!! The _public_ library spent OUR TAXPAYER DOLLARS on this LOSER, BOTTOM OF THE BARREL, trash pile FILTH???!!!! A career low-point for Trevor Howard and Natalie Wood. Sean Connery, re The Offence/Zardoz, and Henry Fonda/Brian Keith, via movies I won't even name, had or would soon thereafter do even worse motion pictures than this tripe. "Directed" by Ronald Neame, who had once made the delightful Horse's Mouth and who would, however briefly, redeem himself a year or so later with Hopscotch. No actors or director could have transcended Meteor's by-the-numbers trash script. WHY would any of them want to try -- could the money from this low-budget piece of dung really have been that great?? The library should confiscate all copies of the DVD and DESTROY THEM.
