Still cannot get used to the idea of Alexander Hamilton as Latino!
After listening to the musical soundtrack for a year and finally seeing the show in Chicago, I was ready to dive in to this 29-disc biography to find out what really happened. Much of what is in the show is spot-on. But the depth that Chernow goes in to especially fleshes out the lives of the other people in Hamilton's life and their motivations (or suspected motivations) for doing what they did. This glimpse into the early years of the experiment called the United States is well worth the time it takes.
Somewhat disappointed in the audio version, easier with the ebook because I can skip/skim. My interest was initially peaked due to the soundtrack of the Broadway production, which I do enjoy. Chernow is so detailed & drawn out I find myself trying to summarize Hamilton's life, the concepts & functions of government he put in place, all his accomplishments, etc. I am now trying to understand his personal life - not an easy task to sort with all the other details. Had the musical not brought Hamilton so forward, this might be just another dead, white guy, founding father.... I was somewhat acquainted with this man while reading The Whiskey Rebels, certainly a different perspective.
