The screenplay is preposterous, filled with completely artificial devices -- a funeral service at a remote rural cemetery that is the launchpad for the plot but is never explained at all, for instance -- and there is the unfortunate fact that 80% of the movie takes place with Thomas Jane sitting at the top of a farmhouse stairway. Lions Gate specializes in low-brow entertainment, but this scrapes the bottom of the barrel.

This was unexpectedly good, with the main characters turning in compelling (if not amusing) performances. Fishburne and Jane's exchanges in particular will cause unexpected laughter due to their inspired (but profane) verbal jousting. Despite being young, Ella Ballentine also turns in a thought provoking commentary on the nature of good vs evil and just how inhuman man can become after causing so much tragedy, and how humane man can become after being gripped by tragedy.

This was a rare treat to find in a sea of mediocre and similar titles with banal dialogue and bland characters. Highly recommended for those who enjoy equal amounts of action, suspense, and character study.

Actually I really enjoyed & disagree with previous comments. Casting & acting was great along with humor mixed in. After struggling thru 3 prior movies that were duds it was a relief to finally watch one all the way thru.

There is no doubt that the three main characters play their parts very well. But, and it's a big but! This is one sick movie and my advice is to leave it on the shelf. For that reason I give it a no star rating. As I don't want to encourage anyone to watch it.

Thomas Jane is excellent, Fishburne is brilliant as always and the quirky Ella Ballentine is impossible to look away from in this tense thriller. Enjoyable shorter movie that is very well acted.
