A memoir from Alex Cooper, who knew she was holding a secret that could shatter her family, her church community, and her life. Yet when this secret couldn't be hidden any longer, she told her parents that she was gay, and the nightmare began. She was driven from her home in Southern California to Utah, where, against her will, her parents handed her over to fellow Mormons who promised to save Alex from her homosexuality.

I had read the shortened version of this in Reader's Digest. I was raised Mormon and left the church in my late teens. I was interested to see what Alex Cooper had to say. The story was very disturbing. She was subjected to such torture and no one would help her for such a long time; she was virtually ignored by members of the church.

Really enjoyed reading this book . Was startling surprised at times at the treatment of Alex . A true story and quite enlightening . Glad I read it . Kept me enthralled through the whole book, certainly wasn't boring

A harrowing memoir that will keep you on the edge of your seat. It is hard to believe and unfortunate that this is a true story.
