An excellent thriller with unexpected results!

Excellent movie and actors!

The ending is what makes the movie. The movie actually has a statement to make and makes it in an entertaining and generally compelling way. It's not an action-slasher. It's a psychological drama with some entertaining suspense throughout.

The acting is regularly dubious. The dialogue writing is frequently wooden. The direction is overall okay. Some of the cinematography and editing is strange. The story is actually pretty good and certainly makes a point that is valuable to everyone; it just needed a better team to really come together as a 'good' movie.

Good acting; lousy story-line. As others have said, it falls short of expectations after a build-up throughout the movie.

How long does it take one married couple to settle into their new home? Better yet, how long do they intend the viewer to endure this snooze-fest of a movie? The dialogue between the characters was similar to that of a boring family or high school reunion. I don't care who you are, where I met you, and what you do. Get lost and go bother someone who cares. That is what I was thinking on my way to stopping my DVD player, and ejecting the disc. The agony is over!

Written and directed by Joel Edgerton in 2015, this American-Australian psychological thriller depicts the dark side of a bullying person and the consequences of such an insident.
After a series of uninvited encounters and mysterious gifts prove troubling, horrifying secrets from the past pop up after more than 20 years.
How well do we really know those closest to us?
Are bygones ever really bygones?
With a well-scripted storyline, the major actors perform superbly and keep you at the edge of your seat.

This directional debut by Joel Egerton, also is given writer credits and does a fine job of acting in this truly suspenseful thriller! The writing was smart and the direction created tension that had me jumping a couple of times.
This fine film, well acted by Rebecca Hall (Transcendence, 2014; The BFG, 2016, Professor Marston and the Wonder Women, 2017), and had Jason Bateman (Arrested Development, 2003 - 2018 tv series; Zootopia - voice, 2016; Game Night, 2018) play outside of his norm. Although this film had me rolling my eyes during few weak areas of the dialogue, but that was more for the lack of honesty and naivety from the husband and wife, than complaints of the film itself.
This is a smart look at bully karma and the consequences.
There is some minor extras on this DVD, of deleted scenes and what the director calls an alternative ending. It however, is more of deleted segments of expanded scenes that gave more than was needed, so could see why those scenes were cut.
Even though some aspects of the story line was able to be foretold, there was many twists and turns that made up for this.

You think you know what you're getting--suspense drama, or more than likely, some kind of slasher/thriller/horror movie.

Think again.

Hate bullies? You'll love this movie. But...get set to have a lot of assumptions trashed. Don'tcha love a movie that does that?

Joel Edgerton is a triple threat, here: co-star, writer and director--his first time behind the camera. He's got the goods. But it's his script concept and the way in which he handles the issues that really makes this one of the best movies I've seen in a long time...and I see lotsa movies.

I'll say no more (and avoid the cardinal sin that other reviewers commit, by saying too much), and just urge you to (ahem) open this gift...and enjoy it.

PS: Don't believe what others say about a "downer" ending. Think, instead, "realistic."

Thought this was a solid movie. The ending was a downer though. But in life, you should just be nice to people. That's what I gleaned from this movie, because you just never know!

This was ok. A bit disappointed in the ending - it's a lot of buildup but then just kind of falls flat. The acting was good, though!

IMDb reported the address of the film:,%20Sherman%20Oaks,%20California,%20USA&ref_=tt_dt_dt

And Zillow has posted the home guide photos:

Jason Bateman: Simon
Rebecca Hall: Robyn
Joel Edgerton: Gordo

Movie Plot:
The movie is about a married couple (Simon & Robyn) relocating to another state and unwillingly reconnects with an insistent gift giving school mate (Gordo). The annoying school mate (Gordo) repeatedly pops up unannounced to talk to Robyn & help Robyn with minute tasks around the house when Simon is away at work. Simon becomes bothered by Gordo’s persistence to be a part of their lives. Simon confronts Gordo and severs the relationship. Robyn finds out that her husband Simon was Gordo’s childhood Bully. Gordo is angered by Simon’s rejection and lack of accountability. Gordo begins to stalk/harass and create problems for the married couple.

I thought the movie was pretty good and worth watching.

-Normally, friendships grow organically. And if they don't serve both parties, they just kind of organically dissipate.
-Don't interrupt me, because I gotta power right through it and then you can talk right afterwards, okay?
-And then there are these. It's from the Bible. "Behold he who conceives mischief and brings forth falsehood." "He has dug a pit and hollowed it out," "and has fallen into the hole which he made."
Spoiler Alert:
-Or maybe I did. I don't know. See, I could tell you the truth. Maybe I didn't do it, but a liar won't believe anybody else, right? I think you just need to go and (intentional removed) It's all in the eyes, you see.
