You know what, I got to say I'm slightly disappointed with this book. I think its predecessors were just a whole lot better and that this ending wasn't very satisfying. First of all, there was an overwhelming feeling of urgency... and then they wouldn't do anything for weeks on end. The very beginning of the book starts out with a 9 month jump into the future, already making me feel like Ava was disconnected with everything. So that was a little annoying. Also, I didn't really like the way it was narrated. I get using 3rd person, a lot of books do it, but it felt like there was so much more time spent on thinking that they needed to win this war and describing Ava's surroundings and/or small little touches and descriptions of people instead of Ava's actual emotions. It was more being told what Ava was feeling instead of experiencing it for ourselves as readers. For example, her feelings about Darklings or Raven. I just felt like all of this never got developed enough. Like, it was Ava saying 'I love Raven so much' but as a reader there almost wasn't any chemistry. So that REALLY annoyed me. Finally, the ending. Okay, after all of that, I gave this book 3 stars because I did keep my attention, did leave me guessing and did leave me feeling excitement. The time travel in the beginning of the story was really interesting and I liked how they incorporated World War 1 into it, especially since whenever I think about that war, it always makes me think that really the main reason for its beginning was politics and greed. There were some good moments in this book and it will remain a part of my memory. I still would recommend this series to anyone interested as well.
