Brimming with poorly-built characters, silly love triangles, and irritating plot points, 'Born of Deception' is a lacklustre sequel to the fairly decent 'Born of Illusion'. Anna is no longer a good protagonist—she gets jealous, angry, and foolish all for horrible reasons. Her struggling relationship with Cole is simply fluff to fill up the pages. The occult stuff and black magic is also getting a bit much, to the point where it's silly. However, even with all these flaws, 'Born of Deception' still glows with the magic of the premise and the era.
