This story has it all - an extremely impressive alien world, a plot that doesn't wander despite being six episodes, some of the best dialogue in any Pertwee story (to the point where some of it feels like it was written for Tom Baker), and a wonderfully memorable guest cast, especially Stubbs and Cotton. There's even - *gasp* - some subtlety and complex characters! The Boys from Bristol are back and in business, and this is the story that proved they deserved their writing gig. I guess this is where the BBC spent the money they saved by only using three Daleks in the season opener.

Decent ideas, some things don't make a lot of sense. Some horrible SFX and terrible line readings.

This was one of the first stories of Doctor Who I ever saw, 40 years ago on TVOntario's Dr. Dator meets Doctor Who show.

For a young lad with an interest in a change from the ordinary and stretching the imagination, this show was part of an almost daily dose of excitement very different from Star Trek, vastly superior to CTV's The Starlost and somewhere between The Prisoner and Space 1999 in interest.

Jim Dator's explanations and recaps of the episodes within the cultural and science context of the time was an inspiration for me.

Those clips aren't on this disk, but there are many extra features bundled with this collection that are similar.

Retro climate change, awkward race relations, human metamorphosis, declining imperialism, this show has something for everyone!
