When Mila is captured by agents from a sinister agency, she gets a phone implanted into her brain. This phone is a perfect way to track and keep tabs on Mila, to ensure that she follows the government's rules and does not escape. With a stroke of luck, she manages to break out of the building she is held in. Now she must use the skills she learned from Julian, her deceased mentor, to trick the phone implanted in her brain. Luckily, she has one advantage: a seven second delay. What the agents see and hear is seven seconds behind from what Mila is experiencing. When I read the summary of this book, I was immediately engrossed. The plot is so ingenious and original. The only thing I didn’t like about this book was the lack of character development.

Seven Second Delay is perfect for fans of The Hunger Games trilogy, but it possesses an amazing heroine and efficient pacing that's all its own. It's a pageturner that's difficult to put down and impossible to forget once you do.

Mila and Julian were supposed to enter the Isles together. Julian was her mentor, her support. But when he plummeted from the thin cable stretching across the waters, she knew it was now up to her. To follow his instructions and get inside the Isle, no matter what. But being captured, labelled as as terrorist, and having a phone implanted in her head - even if everyone else has one - is a little more than she bargained for. The phone’s video feature works like everyone else’s in the Isles, capturing her every move so the detectives can watch her. And, if having this done isn’t bad enough, while they were “installing” the phone, they found what they think is a bomb inside her head. That Julian planted. With everything Mila thought was true turned upside down, she does the only thing she can do - run. Luckily for her, she has a seven second delay in her phone’s video feed, a privacy feature of every phone that can’t be changed. Those seven seconds will be the very thing that could save Mila’s life.

Seven Second Delay is a science fiction teen novel based in the far future where the Isles; a first world country feasts off of the mostly dead third world country. Mila flees from her demolished home in a third world country and illegally enters the Isles to start a new life where everything is better. Mila has learned that the Isles is a place controlled by phones implanted in peoples heads and no privacy. The agency doesn't get rid of Mila right away like the others, they think she is a terrorist because of who she was travelling with. Soon she too has a phone implanted in her head, but they also find something strange...a BOMB. She has a bomb in her head! Mila is very surprised by what they find. They'll definitely kill her now. She must escape! Her only advantage now is a seven second delay.
