A 2007 film that started out to be a quirky comedy which developed to a thriller. However, should have ended 15 minutes sooner rather than leading viewers to yet one more twist with an incredulous no-thrill ending.

French director Claude Lelouch shot to international fame with his 1966 masterpiece, A Man and a Women, but after this his films were quite a disappointment, especially outside of France. While watching the first third of this 2007 film Roman de Gare, I was asking myself if the film could keep going at a five star pace. It did peter out somewhat in the last third, but was still was quite good. Lelouch did show some of the complexity that he did way back in 1966. For awhile in this film, he seemed to be following in the footsteps of Alfred Hitchcock or France’s other Claude, Claude Chabrol.
