Astrophysicist Mario Livio, along with a colorful cast of mathematicians, physicists, and engineers, follow math from Pythagoras to Einstein and beyond, all leading to the ultimate riddle: Is math an invention or a discovery? Humankind's clever trick, or the language of the universe? Join Nova for a mathematical mystery tour, a provocative exploration of math₂s astonishing power across the centuries.

## Comment

Add a CommentMath, the language of science to communicate broad range of topics as Pi, Fibonacci, God particle, math prodigy etc; and as verbal languages, it is a mystery on math's origins and it's cognitive nature for higher animals. As the MIT professor Max Tegmark remarked, these 6 equations explain everything in our universe:

Maxwell 1862 electromagnetism;

Einstein 1905 near-lightspeed motion;

Einstein 1915 gravity;

Schrodinger 1926 quantum mechanics;

Friedmann 1922 our expanding universe;

You 2017? a unified theory of everything.

Meh. Nice animations, but not a lot of mathy content. Includes a brief bio of Marconi, who invented radio transmissions, and I suppose he must have used math to do so, but they don't really explain how.
