The blunt-talking, politically incorrect Andy Dalziel once again pairs up with his younger, fast-tracked sidekick, Peter Pascoe, for a crime-solving marriage of opportunities. Season eleven sees the endearing duo investigate more difficult cases including the 20-year-old murder of a woman whose mummified remains emerge from the water during a cave rescue operation, an inquiry which rocks their world to its core.

A reasonably good series but I much preferred Vera, George Gently and Inspector Lewis. Dalziel is a very rough character and somewhat difficult to like.

Must have new writers! Each episode is constructed around one fact (which you may or may not pick up on at the time)--a very "writerly" trick. Very violent, lotsa gore. Nothing subtle about the brutality.

This season was my least favourite. The producers seem to have more money and the plots are more complex, but the episodes also start to look more like standard American fare. Some of this gore I can find on network TV already, no need to borrow a DVD.
