Two hustlers—one black, one white, one old, one young, one gay, one maybe—collide in Mississippi and the outcome, seeming almost inevitable, is murder. But murder for what? Race? Money? Sex? There lies the mystery John Safran probes in a very personal search for the truth. A page-turner, a grim tale told with sensitivity and humour.
Hilarity meets true crime. This book was interesting, shocking and funny rolled into one. If you are looking for a different take on true crime check out this book. EPL Personal Picks selected this book for me and I really enjoyed it. I probably wouldn't have heard of it otherwise. Give this book a read.
Yes, I'll admit, the first thing I have to say about this book is that it is not Jonathan Safran Foer! I was confused, but definitely not disappointed in the end.
John Safran is an Australian reality star investigating a startling crime in Mississippi- the murder of a white supremacist by his neighbor, a twenty-something black man. Is the crime as straightforward as it seems or has something been left out? Safran walks a fine line while investigating the murder and those involved and ends up painting a picture that even he didn't imagine.
An intriguing read made all the more so given Safran's "outsider" views. Give him a try!
