Fantastic. A Classic Western!
Fairly stock shoot-em up with snazzy women, James Caan, Robert Mitchum and John Wayne carrying things along shooting people and getting shot.
I CAN'T GET IT TO PLAY IN MY VCR.
Director John Ford did so many of the great western films with his chief star John Wayne. In "El Dorado" he has the support of Robert Mitchum and James Caan. The famed cinematographer Harold Rossen who filmed "Gone With The Wind" was behind the camera. The best part of the film is watching Robert Mitchum playing the alcoholic sheriff. John Wayne plays a gunslinger friend of the sheriff who comes to his support. Good roles for John Wayne and Robert Michum with a classic western film director. Classify "El Dorado" under classic John Wayne films. Don't let it get dusty, it needs to be seen!
P.S. KCLS only has one copy of the film and 4 holds at the moment. I would also point out to other patrons who commented bellow me, that revealing the ending of the movie is against the rules of KCLS web site comments. Revealing the ending ruins watching the movie. You already know the ending! The good news to all who read these comments is that almost everyone agrees that "El Dorado" is a Five Star Movie! Thanks and enjoy the movie!
One of the best (and funniest ) Westerns ever made. In 126 minutes, there isn't a dull moment. How many movies can say that?
An alcoholic sheriff fights greedy cattlemen and empire builders as he tries almost single-handedly to tame the West.
Funny. The plot consists of two oldies played by wise-cracking honcho buddies, John Wayne and Robert Mitchum that eventually team up with "Mississippi", James Caan when he was starting out as an actor. Plot: Bad guy comes to town, sherriff is too drunk to see, Missippi can't shoot for nothing and John Wayne kicks butt. End of Story.
