Meet your Baker
Book - 2015
After graduating from culinary school, Juliet Capshaw returns to her quaint hometown of Ashland, Oregon, to heal a broken heart and help her mom at the family bakery. The Oregon Shakespeare Festival is bringing in lots of tourists looking for some crumpets to go with their heroic couplets. But when one of Torte's customers turns up dead, there's much ado about Murder. The victim is Nancy Hudson, the festival's newest board member. A modern-day Lady Macbeth, Nancy has given more than a few actors and artists enough reasons to kill her, but still. The silver lining? Jules' high school sweetheart, Thomas, is the investigator on the case. His flirtations are as delicious as ever, and Jules can't help but want to have her cake and eat it too. But will she have her just desserts? Murder might be bad for business, but love is the sweetest treat of all.

Add a CommentThe setting is very cute, and I liked the meditations on why a chef cooks, but the writing was very middle of the road. Slight awkwardness around potential love interest, but no romance actually in the book, though I expect it down the line. As far as the mystery, I was disappointed that there were few 'clues', making it such that you discovered the answer when the character did near the end, with no chance of having your own suspicions ahead of time. Comes with recipes in the back.
I love this series - the characters are great!
Cute cozy with slightly more blood than usual and way too many cooking instructions.
Fun cozy - especially if you live in the Rogue Valley.
These bakeshop mysteries are really fun. Jules has left her husband for the dumbest reason ever but once back home in Ashland, Oregon the book really comes alive. The characters are interesting and the recipes sound delicious. Fun and easy read.
I enjoy small town cozy mysteries. I like the characters in this story and look forward to reading the next one in this series.
This is a great new cozy mystery series! I can hardly wait for more to be issued. I highly recommend it!
