An unsettling, darkly funny novel about a man who quietly spies on the private lives of his neighbors. You won't remember Mr. Heming. He was the estate agent who showed you around your comfortable home, suggested a financial package, negotiated a price with the owner, and called you with the good news. The less good news is that, all these years later, he still has the key. That's absurd, you laugh. Of all the many hundreds of houses he has sold, why would he still have the key to mine? The answer is; he has the keys to them all.

Story of a real estate agent who breaks into homes and becomes insinuated into the lives of the people he invades which leads to unintended circumstances. Great writing.

Nice, mild mannered Mr. Hemming is the helpful, obliging real estate agent that can get you the perfect house. Just make sure you change the keys after you buy it.

I might have to create a new category for this book: Creeptastic. The main character, William Heming, narrating this story directly to us and it's a powerful, persuasive voice. It's also a matter-of-fact, pragmatic, yet sometimes romantic or defensive voice compelling us to continue reading. From his young days, when his mother left and his father also left, in a way, William was a keen observer of other people's lives. Sometimes he was satisfied with observing, but other times, he liked to set something in motion to see what would happen. His penchant for collecting information and objects from others got him kicked out of the boarding school and right into the perfect business setting for his disposition--a real estate agent. He's still there now, surrounded by his keys from all the houses he's sold, and all the information and tokens he's collected over the years.

I found this book quite enter-taining & was very surprised that Mr. Hemings was not who you thought he was when the book started. I had him as a real voyeur but learned what a
sinister person he was. The book held my interest throughout the entire novel & I found it fast paced & well written.

Quiet... and incredibly creepy. Imagine if Major Pettigrew wasn't a nice fellow, but instead a clever, secretive man with a key to your house. A great read.

How can a person commit murder but still seem like a reasonable chap? Creepy and increasingly dark as the book progresses the main character of this book is as reasonable as he is disturbed! I am changing my locks!
