1715. New Providence Island is a lawless territory, controlled by notorious pirate captains. The most feared is Captain Flint. As the British Navy returns to exterminate Flint and his crew, another side of him emerges. He allies himself with Eleanor Guthrie, daughter of the local kingpin, to ensure their survival. Many opponents stand in their way: rival captains; Eleanor's father; and John Silver, recently recruited onto Flint's crew, who constantly undermines his captain's agenda.

This series is an Historical drama. The Characters are mostly real people who lived this Pirate lifestyle in Jamaica. The events are mostly real events that History has recorded. So it's not really a matter of like or dislike as a fiction tale, like a Disney Pirates of the Caribbean, this is a factual story, driven by a fiction character, so like or dislike...these people and events happened.

Personally, I found the shows exciting and educational both but seriously adult, as Pirating really was.

This was a great series once you get past seasons 1 & 2! (too much skin being shown)
Great storyline and outcome!

Boring, predictable, scheming, slow, and no good story. This show is more talking, lying, scheming, and boring then I have ever seen.
All this shoe is about are some pirates who steal, rape, schem to get rich, and drink alcohol. The acting is horrible, the story is crap, and there's little to no action. A few fights the whole season.
No wonder this crap was cancelled after only 4 seasons. Honestly I'm surprised it lasted that long.
Only thing good I can say is there is some good nudity in the show. But then again porn is has a more interesting to watch...

Loved this one, can't wait for season 2, 3, and 4 to be aquired by the library!

Loved the costumes! so well done. I watched season 2, 3, 4, before getting to see season 1. I really like this series for the touch on history, Capt Zane, and the plot for gold. Life is always violent for the poor.

A disney type film: dirty pirates and immaculately dressed women. Scheming liars and harems of naked women... Boringly obvious plots...

Outstanding series. If you need your buckles swashed, this is the series for you.

Whoo! Just finished season 1 and can't wait for season 2. Like others here, I could do with a LOT fewer scenes watching whores at work, but I perservered because I'd heard it gets better, and it does, the scriptwriting definitely picks up as it goes along. For a show with this much blood (yeah, I get it, violent society, very violent, right, please stop...) there's a surprising number of laugh-out-loud moments, and some characters I really cared for (past tense, spoiler alert... violent and dangerous world, don't forget). The plot hums along with mysterious motives, secrets, conspiracies, and tension. Who wouldn't love a show on a pirate ship, really? The hero is a dream, he reads AND he can cook! The costumes and set are as good as any movie. And the popcorn you set aside during the stomach-churning parts? Just wait -- eventually, the big-movie action gets going, and things blow up.

Action! Explosions! Betrayal! Love affairs! Pirates! Oh my...what else could you want in a series? (Think season 1 is great? Just wait until season 2...whoa...!)

What a ride! Awesome explosions, great acting, and it's loosely based on some true characters. What more do you want? Perfect for summer binge watching.

Barlow read from the book Meditations by Marcus Aurelius:
Be like a rocky promontory against which the restless surf continuously pounds; it stands fast while the churning sea is lulled to sleep at its feet. I hear you say, “How unlucky that this should happen to me!” No at all! Say instead, “How lucky I am that I am not broken by what has happened and am not afraid of what is about to happen. The same blow might have struck any one, but not many would have absorbed it without capitulation and complaint.

Flint: When the king brands us pirates, he doesn’t mean to make us adversaries; he doesn’t mean to make us criminals. He means to make us monsters. For that’s the only way his God-fearing, tax-paying subjects can make sense of men who keep what is theirs and fear no one.

Max: The world is so full of surprises. Let it surprise you.

Flint: Friends...brothers...the prize that you and I have been pursuing is L'Urca de Lima. The Hulk. A prize of almost unimaginable value. Now with this page securely in our possession, we can begin our hunt and we will succeed. No matter the cost. No matter the struggle. I will see that prize is yours. I'm not just gonna make you rich. I'm not just gonna make you strong. I'm gonna make you the princes of the New World!

Gates: Flint’s made you more money than any captain here.
Scott: But lately he hasn't.
Gates: Well, that will change.

Vane: No man is rich who could make more by doing less.

Gates: My fault. That was my fault. When I said we would need to keep our tempers in check, I failed to clarify that we would need to do so for the duration of the meeting. Entirely my fault.

Flint: It requires an intolerable sacrifice.
Barlow: To accept a pardon?
Flint: To apologize! ... They took everything from us. Then they call me a monster? The moment I sign that pardon, the moment that I ask for one, I proclaim the world that they were right. This ends when I grant them my forgiveness, not the other way around.

Flint: Why won't I just kill you afterwards?
Silver: Three weeks is a long time. We might be friends by then.

Billy: How can you just pretend you have no doubts about any of this?
Flint: Years of practice? There's always doubt, Billy. No sane man would deny that. No good captain would acknowledge it.
