Four fabulous, smart, savvy French women offer up their amusing insider take on Parisian life, love, and liberty. The authors are all in their early to late thirties, are unmarried though attached, most have children, and are highly accomplished. Bohemian freethinkers and iconoclasts, they are not afraid to cut through some of the myths. They say what you don't expect to hear, just the way you want to hear it. They are not against smoking in bed and are all for art, politics, and culture; making everything look easy; and going against the grain. Sports are something to talk about in bars, and maybe, yes, your mother did do a little something subtle to her face after all. With 100 black-and-white and color pictures -- many taken by the authors -- this will explain those confusing subjects: clothes, makeup, men, culture, and lifestyle.

A very tongue-in-cheek take on Parisian life, so don't expect anything serious. I liked that these women were able to poke fun at themselves. This is really just a fun little reminder that Parisian women aren't perfect, and their je-ne-sais-quoi comes from confidence and wearing their flaws proudly. The pictures are really pretty too!

With so many authors this book has little consistency in style and makes you wonder between bullet points and somewhat philosophical essays on sex and relationships (in that order). From this book I understand that if you're arrogant, don't comb your hair, put on red lipstick and demonstrate certain behaviour ( I am mindful of my language here but the book tells it all) - you have a good chance to be mistaken for a Parisian. I am not sure if the authors wanted to create this perception, but if they did, mission accomplished.

Unfunny, unengaging, shallow, materialistic, in fact, unreadable.

Beautiful photography but that's it. HOW TO BE PARISIAN WHEREVER YOU ARE fails on two counts: one, it is about being Parisienne, not Parisian, focusing on women only, which slashes its audience in half; and two, it is all style and no substance. It is a lot of wonderful imagery, yes, but it doesn't read like a traditional "how-to" book. It also has an interesting problem, in that the person this book will most appeal to will not like it. What do I mean by that? Well, the authors claim that true Parisiennes don't care about what people think and orchestrate their lives around not caring, but the only person who will read this book is someone who cares too much about how they're perceived and wants to seem like a glamourous French fantasy. For lack of substance, I deduct major points, but the art is lovely.

This is a very fun, casual read. You can flip through it quickly and find some laughs and some inspiration. The artwork is wonderful!

Vapid; insipid!

This book is not meant to be a life advice book. I had my honeymoon in Paris and was curious about this book. I don't know how much I care or don't care about others' opinions about me - I'm older. In any case, I really enjoyed this book as a source of amusement. I also made one or two notes, because there were a few good tips.

ridiculous, poor advice ... i am so embarrassed that I even flipped through this trite, vacuous tome of nonsense!

Vivid, vivacious insights, beautifully illustrated, into the lifestyle of la parisienne.
