Five years after the death of her beloved husband Garrett (Ed Harris), Nikki (Annette Bening) meets Tom, a man who seems to be Garrett s exact duplicate. Not only does Tom possess the same physical characteristics, but he also shares Garrett's kindness, humor, and passion for art. And yet he is a stranger. As romance blossoms between Nikki and Tom, she finds she can't bring herself to tell him the truth about what drew her to him. But as their relationship progresses, it becomes not a question of if the truth will come out, but when.

"Nikki, are you alright?"
"I'm fine. I just got a little dizzy."

This film is a really intriguing contemporary take on Hitchcock's 'Vertigo', with strong performances from Annette Bening and Ed Harris. I especially liked the tone of the film, the way normal & creepy sit side-by-side, the way reality & unreality collide.

It reminds me of another excellent film that also explores some of the surprising & subterranean edges of women's choices: 'Complete Unknown', with Rachel Weiss & Michael Shannon. Both very good films centred on the lives & choices of compelling women.

Sad and depressing film about a lonely widow who seemingly can’t help herself from stalking and seducing her late husband’s doppelgänger. Lying and manipulating to get what she claims she “needs” isn’t the face of “love” but of selfish obsession, which the phony ending does little to resolve. Good acting but miserable and annoying plot.

Loved this movie, Annette Bening and Ed Harris. are both great actors in this. They say we all have a Double and I think that this is true as I saw someone similar to myself once.

love, death. grief. In this film, the fantasy becomes more real than reality. Films often try to capture this reality/fantasy contrast (Mulholland Drive, etc.) Annette Benning was the most convincing re. women's imagination, possibly because, in this case, a woman's pov actually made it onto the screen without the filter of the male screenwriter/director.

I kept waiting to feel something other than mild interest throughout the movie. My expectations were high based on Annette Bening being the lead actress but all I could see is that she was told to do ___ and then ___ and ___ and that she herself couldn't get into the role.

Here's the thing the whole relationship started on dishonest and when honesty came to the forefront it dissolved except for the treasured moments of Love (one-sided).

Engaging movie with rock solid performances from Harris and Benning. A love story so over the top that it transcends fantasy and lands back to reality.

What power...LOVE!

A small but amazing cast do a great job of this story about the complexities of loss, love and starting over.

A very selfish self obsessed woman who can,t see who she hurts. I found it sickening....even if the acting was good.

I was hoping for more of a plot twist, but it was still worth watching. I had forgotten that Robin Williams was in this about seeing ghosts....
