For those who have despaired of ever learning a foreign language, here, finally, is a book that will make the words stick. At thirty years old, Gabriel Wyner speaks six languages fluently. He did not learn them in school -- who does? -- rather, he learned them in the past few years, working on his own and practicing on the subway, using simple techniques and free online resources. In this book Wyner reveals what he has discovered.

This is a fantastic resource to help a language learner become fluent in their language of choice. Brings together all the things I have always been told to do plus several new ideas!

This is a great book to help you learn practically any language. It takes advantage of many technological resources, and provides less tech-intensive alternatives. He stresses the importance of mastering a language's sound system before going forward.

I generally prefer Benny Lewis' Fluent in 3 Months as it gives overall better advice. This is good if you want a little more supplementary material than Fluent in 3 Months books states. This one focuses a little too much on the flash card creation which some people may not like, though it does give some good points nonetheless.

I'm pretty sure this system can work for a lot of languages but the time effort to set it up seems so high that few will probably follow through with it.

Very informally written, but it remains upbeat and funny whilst giving instruction, advice, and links and techniques. Too early for me to determine whether it is all good advice, though with some effort I'll determine that soon enough.
