A great movie that both Melvyn Douglas and Gene Hackman were nominated for acting awards. The story is powerful and I think many of us can relate to it. A father has too much influence on his son. The son has done up to now what his father asks, but needs his independence now. A great script and a wonderful cast. You can't ask for more than that!

If you just want to be entertained skip this movie. If you are struggling in a parent/child relationship this is a great movie, but there are no answers here. Great movie none the less.

This is one of those movies I like to revisit every few years.

It is an emotionally powerful film. Every time you think there is going to be some accommodation between the characters, disagreement crops up, showing that the participants don't really know how to act like they love one another, if they really do.

Great acting by Gene Hackman (oscar nom), Melvyn Douglas (oscar nom and golden globe nom), and Estelle Parsons.

If you haven't seen it, watch it when you are in the mood for some intense acting.
