The New York Times bestseller

Jane Yellowrock is a shape-shifting skinwalker who always takes care of her own--no matter the cost ....

When Evan Trueblood blows into town looking for his wife, Molly, he's convinced that she came to see her best friend, Jane. But it seems like the witch made it to New Orleans and then disappeared without a trace.

Jane is ready to do whatever it takes to find her friend. Her desperate search leads her deep into a web of black magic and betrayal and into the dark history between vampires and witches. But the closer she draws to Molly, the closer she draws to a new enemy--one who is stranger and more powerful than any she has ever faced.

I like the series and enjoy badass and competent female protagonist but I do wish she weren't quite so macho. The problem is that to (possibly) even out the fact that she is a shapeshifter and hunts vampires, the author has drawn her predictably "good" in every other way:
-loves kids
-doesn't cuss and doesn't allow others to, in her presence
-is irresistible to all men
-crippled with guilt

So, weirdly nuanced but when she writes about teh Beast in her, very good empathy and storytelling.

Oh, and the most irritating aspect of this series is her best friend Molly's family. Evan is brutish and unintelligent - a complete Neanderthal with magic. He should be put down like a rabid dog. I have NO idea why Molly would find him appealing or why Jane wouldn't cut him dead. It's an utterly un-nuanced relationship.
