The Met Gala's 2019 theme was camp and about 75% of the celebrities didn't seem to get it. They should've invited Georgian new wave party band the B-52s, who brought an endearingly kitschy aesthetic to an often overly serious scene. This is there second album, from 1980, and features "Private Idaho," which gave its name to the Gus Van Sant film, and "Devil in My Car." Lots of fun. Recorded, like a number of their albums, in the Bahamas.
Not quite the instant classic of the debut album, but WILD PLANET is the last truly good album by the B-52's. The songs are a bit more conventional, but who can argue with the likes of "Party Out of Bounds," "Private Idaho" and "Dirty Back Road"? Inspired amateurism ... never again would they play all the instruments themselves on an album.
