Can you believe the Stones recently celebrated their 50th anniversary? I remember when they reunited for the "Steel Wheels" tour and everyone was joking about how old they were and that was almost 25 years ago. This, released in England as simply "The Rolling Stones," is their debut from 1964. It is almost entirely covers with two originals, one of which is a forgettable instrumental. All the elements that they would build their sound on are here: blues, R&B, 50s rock, Chuck Berry. It's derivative, but there's an unmistakable swagger and energy, as well as simple, slightly metallic sounding production that has aged well. "12x5" came out the same year.
classic stones, nothing more need be said
Raw, ready, and the most uncompromising album in the band's catalogue. If I could only own one of their albums, this would be it!
