This is the final book in the Montmaray Journals and it is phenomenal, the best of the lot, in my opinion. It covers a long period of time, 1939-1944, as Sophie FitzOsborne lives in exile in London during the war years. Cooper clearly did her research and mixes historical fact and fiction seamlessly. This is funny, heartbreaking, and totally unforgettable. Sophie's coming of age is so subtle and yet so perfectly handled that all you can do is marvel at the author's perfect touch. Romance, heartbreak, intrigue, death...all here, and all handled perfectly. Cannot recommend highly enough for fans of historical fiction.

This series is just a lot of fun to read. It's aimed at the y/a market, but like many y/a books, it's equally interesting and enjoyable for adults. It'd probably make a pretty decent movie as well.

I thought this was the best of the trilogy, but you have to start with the first one, "A Brief History of Montmaray", to get to know who everyone is. An excellent blend of fiction and history. In the Teen section, but also of interest to adults, especially those who liked 'The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society".
