I remember a lot of criticism the Logan's Run TV series was not as good as the movie, but I always thought it was great. Now, many years later and viewing it again, I still think it is a great piece of science fiction history.

Three stars out of five.

Campy fun. I enjoyed the series as a child, and still like it for nostalgic reasons.

Unfortunately, during the 1970's, American science fiction television was regarded as kid-stuff. Although many episode were written by respectable science fiction writers, such as Theodore Sturgeon and Harlan Ellison, the finished product was dumbed down.

The main characters, Logan 5 (played by Gregory Harrison), Jessica 6 (played by the lovely Heather Menzies) are joined by REM, an android (played by Donald Moffat) with a wry sense of humor, are well-cast and appealing.

The series was cancelled mid-season, so only 14 episodes were filmed. It's a pity, because the show was improving as it went along.

Even still, the series would appeal to many children (mostly boys, I'd think) around ages 9 to 13, and adults like myself, who enjoyed it, as kids.

Some of the better episodes include:

"Man Out of Time" - deals with time travel - quite a thoughtful ending.

"Fear Factor" - a techno-psychological thriller.

"Carousel" - Perhaps the series's best.

"Night Visitors" - a Halloween episode. Quite hair-raising, actually.
