A "fast-paced and engrossing" ( Publishers Weekly ) sci-fi novel that asks the question: What would you do to survive?

When the black spheres filled the sky, anyone caught beneath them would vanish in a flash of blue-white light. Huddled indoors, the survivors were unaware if what was happening in their neighborhoods was happening worldwide.

Josh is trapped at home with his father, whose sanity is starting to erode from the endless confinement. Megs struggles to survive in a hotel parking garage where she sees human nature at its worst. For both of them, food, water, and time are running out.

And hovering patiently above them is an extraterrestrial enemy that has inexplicably declared war against humanity...

Book isn't bad but left a lot of questions unanswered hence gave it a 2.5 stars.

You will understand what I mean once you finish reading it.

Surviving a massive alien siege is one thing – surviving humanity is another. POD is a page turner of a book that combines a Life as We Knew It style scenario with an alien invasion. When the aliens arrive, filling the sky with black pods, instantaneous death from above strikes any person who ventures outside. And yet, the aliens don’t seem to be attacking directly—just picking off humans, one by one…

For 16-year old Josh, trapped with his dad in their home in Washington with all lines of communication to the outside world cut off, every day is a slow torture of isolation and annoyances. For 12-year old Megs, life is a scramble as she tries to stay alive on the run inside a hotel parking lot – left there by her mother.

Tension mounts as the situation becomes progressively more grim. Will Megs survive long enough to find her mother? Will Josh and his father survive each other?
