I can’t say that I enjoyed this book as much as I enjoyed the first three books in the Fallen series, and I feel as though it was possibly a little forcefully written. After all, the reaction to the end of Rapture was a mix. All were left in a pool of their own tears, but some got over it, while others (including me) were desperate for Lauren Kate to change the ending. This book follows several stories at once. Luce and Daniel in Medieval England (before they turned into mortals), Miles and Shelby, Roland, and Arriane. I must say, as I read this book, nostalgia was constantly creeping up on me. But it was also sadness, as I knew that this was sadly the last time that we would get any new stories about Luce and Daniel. But like I said before, it was a disappointment compared to the other books in the series. I think that it received such a negative reaction because of how the audience had mentally prepared themselves. The readers had most probably taken days and week to get over the ending of Rapture, and to receive another story about Luce and Daniel when they had just forgotten about the pain? It was heartbreaking. -@thesoundofcolours of the Teen Review Board at the Hamilton Public Library

I picked this up because it was a collection of short stories, so I figured it was a standalone book. When Luce and Daniel were mentioned it became obvious there was more to their story. Nevertheless I found the stories interesting and didn't feel lost without knowing the backgrounds of the characters.
