The average person has 70,000 thoughts every day, and many of those thoughts trigger a corresponding emotion. No wonder so many of us often feel like we are controlled by our emotions. Our lives would be much improved if we controlled them. In this book, the author examines the gamut of feelings that human beings experience. She discusses the way the brain processes and stores memories and thoughts, and then, emotion by emotion, she explains how we can manage our reactions to those feelings. In doing so she gives the reader a toolbox for managing the way we react to the onslaught of feelings that can wreak havoc in our lives. She blends the wisdom of the Bible with the latest psychological research. This is a comprehensive guide to the range of emotions that we feel every day and it shows us how to manage them, instead of letting them manage us.

I hired the audio book version. For my first experience with an audio book it wasn't too bad. I got quite a bit out of the book itself... the way Joyce gives advice, she makes you realise just how much you can overcomplicate/think things... she shows it to you in such a simple straightforward way that I was able to walk away with a sense of inner peace after reading the book (and some new direction in how to handle my emotions).

The information in the first few chapters is good, however I couldn't listen past the first cd because of the narrator. Her voice was very unpleasant. She does have an accent, which doesn't bother me. It was just her voice in particular that was highly unpleasant to hear. I will have to read the actual book to get the rest of the information.

I gave this book a 4 star rating because the content was excellent and very helpful. However, the writing isn't great, but I wasn't searching for great writing, I was searching and found great advice.
