I absolutely love Russell Brand. This is probably my favorite movie he's done, yet! Very very funny!

Like most things, not quite as well dont as the original. Brand does a pretty good job portraying the spoiled, yet loveable title character. He seems to bring a softness to the character i didn't see in Moore's performance. It's a cute go to comedy.

I've yet to see the original, that some claim is overrated and others adore. So, based on this film alone, I felt ARTHUR was sort of kind of okay. It was mediocre, a time-waster to be sure, and I was surprised to find true thespians, like Helen Mirren, tied to this project. Jennifer Garner seemed over-the-top and out of her element; the most grotesque character she's played well to date is that of Hannah in the TV series FELICITY. Garner seems more comfortable playing the Greta Gerwig part, but unfortunately, Gerwig filled it in this film. Now for the main man: Russell Brand has a natural funniness about him, but he's yet to pick films that highlight that humour. He's often playing either an eccentric or the comic relief sidekick (re: GET HIM TO THE GREEK, ROCK OF AGES, that stupid Adam Sandler film), but none of the jokes seem his own. I think if he chose a bit more wisely, he could get a great comedy still, and if he dialed back a bit, he could even venture into -- gasp -- serious drama. He is capable, but this film doesn't show it. I wouldn't recommend it.

Not being a fan of Russell Brand I resisted seeing this movie for quite some time. I have to say I was pleasantly surprised by how much I enjoyed it. Heartwarming and sweet, Greta Gerwig is the perfect choice for his love interest. Very enjoyable and I even warmed up to Russell Brand a bit. Quite a few laughs as well.

Fair – Arthur (2011) 110 min. Watching this film I couldn’t help but compare to the 1981 "must see" classic starring Dudley Moore. The annoying Russell Brand assumed the role in this version of Arthur; a take-off of the Ritchie Rich comic books. The updated version is watchable but some of the antics of the new Arthur do not compare to the original. Last note – Helen Mirren is perfect as Arthur’s nanny. I’m still unsure of the purpose of a magnetic bed?

A make-believe sanitized version of alcoholism. Like having lots of money would make it less devastating and more attractive !?... not very funny.

I set my expectations very low for this one and was pleasantly surprised by how much I liked it. If you hate Russell Brand, you will hate this movie. I actually like the guy and think he is funny in almost everything I've seen him in. He pretty much plays the same part in everything, and this is more of the same. His delivery is spot on and the lines they gave him in this one are pretty funny. The plot is predictable, even more so if you've seen the original, but still manages to be heartwarming and enjoyable. Brand is the draw here, however, so if you don't like the guy, don't watch this movie.
