A unique tale of a man embracing life's greatest mystery. Choosing to spend his final days surrounded by his loved ones in the countryside, Boonmee is visited by his dead wife as a ghost, and his lost son as a strange hairy beast with red glowing eyes. They've come to guide him to his final resting place, a cave where his first soul began. With a wry sense of humor and a humanist spirit, it's a magical tale of reincarnation, karma, and nature.

This movie is a joke in terms of what it is. If you've seen "2001 A Space Odyssey" or "Planet of the Apes", these monkey demons are put to shame. The plot (if you can call it that) is so disjointed, it makes "Inception" and "Cloud Atlas" look organized. Say no to Thai films (excluding "Chocolate" and "The Beautiful Boxer")!

Wonderful delightful mysterious poignant sorrowful......all the strange and magnificent things between this world and the next. Uncle B is dying and others come to guide him, those who have gone ahead and those who have taken another form.

In Thailand, people mate with monkey ghosts & catfish spirits. Philosophy ensues. Very, very slowly. Remember: "Heaven is overrated."

A Palme DÓr (Cannes Film Fest) winner... so what! Too slow even for Thai audiences, I reckon. An Asian version of magical realism that fails to enthrall a wider audience except for serious cineastes... a fantasy lacking of visual imagery except for the beautiful tropical jungle setting. Tropical Malady, another Thai film that I could recall, is more accessible to the hoi polloi comme moi! Disappointing.
