Six months after the death of her parents in a car crash, Catherine Linton returns to her hometown of Lowfield, Mississippi, unconvinced that it was an accident and looking for answers. Her suspicions seem to be confirmed when she stumbles upon the dead and beaten body of her doctor father's long-time nurse. Catherine is right: there are secrets being kept in Lowfield. But if she continues to investigate, the town where she grew up may be the same place where she is sent to her grave.

Add a CommentThe main character is not easy to warm up to, and unlike Sookie Stackhouse, she is not someone I'd like to meet. It is a good story, but not as engaging as one would hope.
Although Charlaine's writing is much more entertaining now, this is well written and the story flows well. A very good early effort and still easy to read.
I think this is the first book written by Charlaine Harris. Tame, but a well written story and enjoyable.
Not as engrossing as Charlaine Harris' later works. Also, the motive for the killings was a bit lame. Perhaps the lameness of the motive is a result of the date of the book or the fact that it's set in a southern state, but I just didn't really find it all that convincing.
